The Story

Ever since I was a kid, I've spent most of my time in my imagination. I love the worlds within cartoons, comic books, and artwork - as a kid I became inspired to express my own. Drawing was my choice of self expression, eventually branching out into other mediums like ink, watercolor, collage, digital art, and animation. These past years at UC Santa Cruz, I focused on studying painting, my classes revealing the versatility of paint as a medium. I love creating landscapes, environments, and unspoken narratives.

Art as a Way of Thinking

For me, art has always been a tool in understanding myself and the experiences I find myself in. When I’m out in the world, I record things that inspire and interest me. Through photography, sketching, collaging, and journaling, I gather a rich collection of material to work with. These important symbols find their way into my artwork to create qualities of surrealism, juxtaposition, and narrative. I love using symbols as they represent things that are not entirely known, but point towards deeper meaning. In this way, I want viewers to gain their own unique insight and explore themselves as we each project our own meanings and associations onto the images before us. Thus, I see my work as a unification of our interior and exterior worlds, to deepen our connection to ourselves and the world around us.
